Using Meditation to Reduce Your Anxiety and Panic Attacks
Those of us that sufferer from anxiety live in a perpetual state of fear and unease. Anxiety can quickly lead to a reduced quality of life and see us running from our fears instead of confronting them and overcoming them. There are many ways to reduce anxiety levels but one of the most popular and effective practices is meditation.
Meditation has been around for centuries, in fact, meditation is becoming more popular than ever as people are looking for ways to find inner peace and happiness.
While many people shrug off meditation as some new age practice the fact is that meditation can transform your life in so many wonderful ways.
If you suffer from anxiety and panic attacks I can stress enough the importance of making meditation a part of your daily life. Meditation is more than simply relaxing it is a completely natural state of being that many of us today have forgotten about.
How Does This Work?
Meditation works by allowing you to enter into an altered state of consciousness. During this time you will feel as if your body is completely relaxed and your conscious mind silenced. Many people will experience mild states of euphoria during meditation as well as begin to see things much more clearer and in a different frame of mind.
The fact is that even 15 minutes of meditation a day can quickly see you melting off stress and anxiety about work, money, relationships and other modern day stresses that have taken over.
One of the easiest ways to get started is to remember that meditation must become a part of your life. While you may get some great results meditating when you have free time, your goal should be to set some time aside each day to meditate.
A great technique for meditation beginners is the focused breathing exercise, this technique is one of the easiest to try for beginners and is extremely effective:
- Find a quiet place where you will not be interrupted during your meditation session.
- Lay or sit but make sure you are completely comfortable and in complete silence.
- Close your eyes and let your body begin to relax.
- As you get comfortable, start focusing on the sound breathing as you listening to the sound going in and out of your lungs, focus on this peaceful sound and embrace it.
As you start entering an altered state of conscious and meditation you may have all those weird thoughts pop into your head, when this occurs you must return your focus back to the sound of your breathing. As you get deeper into meditation you may feel as if your body is becoming weightless and you may experience a tingling sensation as your body completely relaxes. Some people will also experience what can be best described as vibrations through their body, don’t freak out, this is completely natural.
Many people will experience a great sense of calm and relaxation after their meditation sessions. Allow this feeling of peace and calm take you over.
Meditating daily will help you reduce your stress and anxiety and can help eliminate the frequency of panic attacks. For many people, meditation can rid them of horrible anxiety and stop the panic attacks that have caused them to live in fear for so long.
If you find it difficult to relax or silence your mind you should look at some guided meditation audio or binaural beats that can help you enter into a deep meditative state within minutes.
